This period concerns the beginning of genealogical research because it is contemporary. We begin from the most ancient act of Civil Status we possess: birth or marriage certificate of grand parents or great grand parents. From these data, it is necessary to go back in the family tree generation after generation by asking for copies (with filiations of acts) from the Civil Status Registry at http://www.govmu.org/portal/site/civilstatussite/or by writing to This email address is being protected from spambots. When reaching the period over 100 years, the CGMR database (currently through the list of discussion http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/Imaugen/) will provide references to acts that we are looking for, and then apply to the Civil Status Registry for the documents sought. If the CGMR database does not provide answers, it will be necessary to contact directly the Civil Status office.
